Ash is geboren en getogen in Beiroet en woont sinds ruim een jaar in Assen (maar is bijna altijd in Groningen te vinden). Ze vroeg als vluchteling asiel aan in Nederland vanwege de vrijheid die hier heerst: hier wordt iedereen geaccepteerd, ongeacht religieuze, sociale of seksuele achtergrond. In Beiroet was Ash visagiste en nagelstyliste en studeerde ze rechten, in Nederland werkt ze nu als vrijwilligster bij de AHF (Aids Healthcare Foundation) en als visagiste en actrice bij Bab Ad-daar.
“Bab Ad-daar nodigde me uit om de Libanese ambassadeur te worden voor het MENA- project. Ik vind het een eer om hier te staan en de cultuur, de kunst en de kunstenaars waarmee ik ben opgegroeid te mogen belichten. Het MENA-programma is heel rijk en divers, het toont de keurrijke schatten van de MENA-regio en laat de smaken proeven van onze culinaire achtergrond. Het is geweldig dat dit in de stad Groningen wordt georganiseerd, om een brug te slaan naar de vele expats, studenten en vluchtelingen uit de MENA-regio die hier wonen.
Persoonlijk kijk ik uit naar de foodworkshops en naar de muziek en ik verheug me erop om de geweldige performer George Khabbaz te ontmoeten. En ik ben heel erg benieuwd hoe de interactie van Groningen met dit festival zal zijn.”
Ash was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon. and has been living in Assen for a little over a year (but she’s almost always in Groningen). She applied for asylum in the Netherlands as a refugee because of the freedom that exists here: everyone is accepted, regardless of religious, social or sexual background. In Beirut Ash was a make-up and nail artist and studied law, in the Netherlands she now works as a volunteer at the AHF (Aids Healthcare Foundation) and as a make-up artist and actress at Bab Ad-daar.
“Bab Ad-daar invited me to become the Lebanese ambassador for the MENA-project. I find it so bright to stand there and be able to highlight the culture, art, and artists of my background. I think this program is totally awesome, it’s diverse and rich and brings out the colourful treasures of the MENA-region and shares the tastes of our culinary background.
It is great that this is being organized in the city of Groningen, to bridge the gap with the many expats, students and refugees from the MENA region who live here.
Personally, I am looking forward to the food workshops and the music, and to meeting the amazing performer George Khabbaz. And I’m very curious to see how the interaction of Groningen with this festival will be.”
