Een première tijdens MENA IS HERE. Kayhan Kalhor, de onovertroffen grootmeester van de kemenche (de Perzische knieviool), en Erdal Erzincan, de Turkse virtuoos op de bağlama (saz), spelen al vele jaren samen en staan als duo garant voor een prachtige mix van Iraanse en Turkse muziek. Hun albums worden algemeen erkend als meesterwerken. Beide muzikale giganten gaan met het Rembrandt-trio een nieuw project aan, waarvan dit concert de start is.
Wie het op een uniek instrumentarium spelende Rembrandt Trio volgt, weet dat hun muziek draait om het samensmelten van invloeden uit jazz, klassieke muziek en muziek uit het Midden-Oosten. In 2013 speelde het trio voor het eerst samen met Kayhan Kalhor. Er volgden ijzersterke optredens op festivals als North Sea Jazz en Crossing Border en in 2017 gaven de musici drie uitverkochte concerten (in totaal 9000 bezoekers!) in Teheran. Een jaar later was er het wonderschone en lovend ontvangen album It’s Still Autumn. In september 2021 gaf het viertal een door Dagblad van het Noorden met vier sterren gerecenseerd concert in De Oosterpoort.
Begin 2022 schoof ook Kalhors geestverwant Erdal Erzincan aan, waarmee er eigenlijk niets minder dan een superformatie ontstond. In 2023 gaat het vijftal de podia én de harten veroveren met hun unieke mix van muzikale smaken, die zowel liefhebbers van klassieke muziek, jazz en wereldmuziek zal aanspreken.

Kayhan Kalhor, the unsurpassed grandmaster of the kemenche (the Persian knee violin), and Erdal Erzincan, the Turkish virtuoso on the bağlama (saz), have been performing as a duo for many years. Together they guarantee a beautiful mix of Iranian and Turkish music. Their albums are widely considered as masterpieces. Both musical giants are embarking on a new project with the Rembrandt Trio. This concert marks the start.
Anyone who follows the Rembrandt Trio, performing on a unique set of instruments, knows that their music revolves around the fusion of jazz, classical music and music from the Middle East. In 2013 the trio performed with Kayhan Kalhor for the first time. Strong performances followed at festivals such as North Sea Jazz and Crossing Border and in 2017 the musicians gave three sold-out concerts (a total of 9,000 visitors!) in Tehran. 2018 saw the release of their wonderful and critically acclaimed album It’s Still Autumn. In September 2021, the foursome gave a concert in De Oosterpoort, which received four stars (out of five) from Dagblad van het Noorden.
At the beginning of 2022, Kalhor’s musical soulmate Erdal Erzincan also joined this superior formation. In 2023, the quintet will conquer both stages and hearts with their unique blend of musical tastes, which will appeal to lovers of classical music, jazz and world music alike.
